Beachstock set for Margate

Beachstock 2013, billed as the Planet’s Biggest Beach Party, is set for June 29 (rain date June 30) in Margate. Events include:

Mile open water swim; paddle boarding event; beachstock volleyball tournament; music, games and giveaways presented by 100.7 WZXL; food and beer garden; vendor booths; sand sculpting and instruction; face painting; hair braiding; bocce ball and shuffleboard; Margate Police Ident-A-Kid Program; slide and obstacle course amusements; free skin cancer screening; kid’s variety entertainment; battles of the bands; Stacey’s Surf Camp; children’s treasure hunt; life guard competitions, an evening bonfire and more.

There will be a free jitney shuttle at Atlantic Avenue and the Union Avenue School.

JCC announces summer series lineup

From June 27 through Aug. 8, the Milton and Betty Katz Jewish Community Center’s lineup for its Summer Series of Entertainment will keep audiences smiling, laughing and engaged.

June 27, 7 p.m., Broadway’s legendary song and dance man Tommy Tune, “Taps, Tunes and Tall Tales,” see tommytune.com.

Classses in jewelry, metalsmithing set

Summer jewelry-making classes are now forming at the Ventnor City Cultural Art Center, 6500 Atlantic Ave., Ventnor.

Learn to work with metal, stones and beads to make beautiful wearable art. Learn traditional techniques and develop your own style.

Participants make pins, earrings, necklaces and bracelets to wear or give as gifts, and learn to work with glass, crystal and semi-precious stones and beads, as well as a variety of metal jewelry findings. These four-week courses run July 5-25. They include:

11 a.m.-1 p.m. Beading: Learn techniques and materials including bead stringing and pearl knotting, catches and findings to enhance designs. how various beads are made and how to use them.

1:15-3:30 p.m. Beginners Metalsmithing (Metals 1): For beginners and those looking for a creative outlet. Be your own jewelry designer. Learn methods of cold joining metals and stones. Learn to work with wire and sheet metals,piercing, sawing, riveting, drilling, polishing, finishing and more.

For advanced students, Open Studio is by appointment only. Anyone who has taken Metals 1 and 2 can call 609-287-6449 for times.
