Two Margate residents were arrested on charges of setting the house they were renting on fire in January.

Police arrested William E. Fortner and Melissa L. Clark, who lived at 124 North Jefferson Avenue. They were each charged with one count of aggravated arson and conspiracy.

The department issued arrest warrants for the couple on June 14, but the two suspects had fled to South Carolina, police said. U.S. marshals arrested the two at a hotel in Myrtle Beach on July 1. The two have since been transported to Atlantic County jail.

Fortner is being held on $150,000 bail and Clark is being held on $25,000.00 bail.

The case was investigated by Detective Joe Scullion.
