The Ventnor Police Department announced today it will set up a checkpoint for drunken drivers at some point this year.

The location will not be announced but will depend on many factors, including research into the frequency of drunken driving arrests, accidents, and the checkpoint not being too much of a hindrance for people living in the neighborhood.

Funding for the checkpoint comes money collected through the municipal court and fines levied against people convicted of drunken driving.

The department said they have noticed more designated drivers in recent years.
