Ventnor police officer Howard Bloom was promoted to the rank of captain Thursday morning, Ventnor Police Chief Michael Miller said.

Bloom, 45, has been a police officer since 1991 and was promoted to sergeant in 1999 and lieutenant in 2003

Bloom has served in both patrol and detective divisions and has been a firearms instructor since 2001.

A certified academy instructor, he is currently attending the West Point Command and Leadership School.

Bloom will be assigned as the Operation Division Commander, Miller said.
