Atlantic City police recovered a Northfield police officer’s stolen gun early Wednesday morning after a gunshot led to the search of a home.

Shortly after 2 a.m., an officer on patrol heard a gunshot coming from the 100 block of North Massachusetts Avenue, Lt. James Sarkos said.

The officer saw a group of people outside a residence, but as he approached in a marked patrol car, they ran into the home, Sarkos said. Additional patrol units came to the scene and surrounded the residence.

Those inside initially refused orders to come out of the home, but after a brief standoff, 11 people exited the residence, according to the report.

A search recovered a loaded semiautomatic Glock 23, which had been reported stolen in the burglary of the Egg Harbor Township home of a Northfield police officer.

Northfield police Chief Robert James confirmed the gun was stolen last month.

No one has been charged in the incident, but could be following a full investigation.

Police would not release the names of anyone involved until charges are filed, Sarkos said.

The home on Massachusetts Avenue where the gun was found belongs to Ecstasy Blackwell, 37, who has lived there since 2005, records show.

Blackwell has identified herself as the aunt of Derreck Mack, 18, who was killed by police during a chase Dec. 23. Phone numbers listed for Blackwell were disconnected, and she could not be reached for comment.

At 11:11 a.m., police were called back to a residence near the home, after a resident found a projectile had come in through his first-floor kitchen window, Sarkos said. The department’s Forensic Unit recovered it.

Detective Tom Holton was the lead investigator. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 609-347-5766. Information can be called in anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234. Anonymous texts may also be sent to tip441 (847411). Just begin the text with ACPD.
