It's as if a wave of tranquility is woven into the walls of the Bee Well, a voguish new wellness spa and boutique located in the heart of Linwood.

At this particular moment, Billie Holiday's music was streaming from the speakers, the smell of lavender was sweeping through the room and a pot of coffee was brewing on a nearby tabletop, under a chalkboard that read "Bienvenue a L'abeille Bien," French for "welcome to the Bee Well."

The Bee Well's grand opening celebration will take place Sept. 21. Its services include massages, makeup application, skin care consultations, facials and waxing. It's also a wellness boutique carrying an array of beauty products and luxury accessories made with natural ingredients, including their own line of soaps, lotions and lip balm.

The owners are Linwood sisters Rianon Kowalewski and Lauren Barrett, and their cousin, Devon Parrotto of Ocean City.

The business is a blending of the trio's interests and life experiences. Barrett and Parrotto are both certified massage therapists and Kowalewski is a certified esthetician, specializing in beautifying the skin.

Barrett and Kowalewski are also mothers of young children, which they said gave them a renewed interest and appreciation in finding balance in life - also known as "me time" - and Parrotto is a survivor of a serious brain injury, which led her to massage therapy, she said. Two years ago, she was hit by a car in Northfield and suffered a severe brain injury; she enrolled in massage therapy school after, she said.

"Massage therapy was a way for Devon to go back to school at her own pace and do something that was hands on," Barrett said.

The women are excited for the opening, and hope the community will come out to see the place and support their new small business.

"We just want the members of our community to feel like they belong here," Kowalewski said. "Even if they don't buy a product or have a service scheduled, this is a place for them to come in and have a cup of tea, relax, sit down with us, talk to us."

"There wasn't anything like this in our community, and there was a need for it," Barrett said.
