Cape Island Building & Restoration is a 24-hour emergency services company that specializes in disaster recovery, including fire, floods, pipe bursts, hot water heater bursts, smoke damage from heaters, lightning strikes, anything.
We’re a full service restoration company, which means we’ll work the loss from the emergency to the rebuild, to when we turn over the key and it’s time to come back.
Emergency services include boarding up, water extraction, structural drying, odor control,
and cleaning and deodorizing.
On the renovation and repair side of our business, it’s everything a general contractor would do. We build several new homes a year, ranging from single-story modular ranchers through 7,000-square-foot custom homes.
We also do a lot of commercial property work, including most recently an $800,000 project for Seapointe Village in Wildwood Crest. Now we’re working on eight units damaged by fire at Cresson Woods in Pleasantville.
During Hurricane Sandy, we actually cut and dried out 160 properties. The big difference between us and many others is we’re still here. We haven’t left. We’re part of the community, and you can come right to our office in Somers Point.
My role is to network throughout the community and make sure people know who we are and what we do.
I also work with every single homeowner on the rebuilding of the property, which includes selection of kitchens, flooring, paint, whatever.
I also do estimating with the insurance companies and adjusters, to make sure they’re paying what they’re supposed to pay. I also oversee the project managers, and will run projects if need be when they’re overwhelmed.
One challenge is the payment process is very slow. Insurance companies pay slowly, so you’re forever chasing the money to make sure it’s paid properly.
The reward is the day a homeowner moves home. Even though they see the house being rebuilt, when they go back in, they hug us, they cry.
About me: I play golf in a league on Mondays and fish when possible out of Cape May. I like spending time with my son and he often does those with me. They’re my big hobbies.
