A 35-year-old Egg Harbor Township man was arrested Sunday for stealing money from a collection box at the Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Linwood.

A Linwood police officer responded to a call at about 1:43 p.m. that a man broke into the box and fled the area. The officer found a subject matching the description given by witnesses traveling southbound on New Road.

Brian Bowyer, 35, of EHT, was arrested and charged with theft, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia

Police said $162.20 of the stolen money was recovered from Bowyer.

Linwood Police Spokesman Capt. Doug Carman said Bowyer also had two arrest warrants, one from Galloway for $2,500 for theft and another from the Atlantic County Sheriffs Department for $6,360 for failure to pay child support.

Bowyer was held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
