The New Jersey Turnpike Authority will host a public hearing and presentation today in Upper Township regarding the replacement of the southbound Garden State Parkway bridge over the Great Egg Harbor Bay.

The event, from 3 to 6 p.m., will be at the Upper Township Municipal Building at 2100 Tuckahoe Road.

The Turnpike Authority plans to replace the bridge between Somers Point and Upper Township and over Drag Island starting next year and lasting two and a half to three years.

A unique aspect of the bridge will be a planned mixed use walkway and bicycle lane so pedestrians can easily travel from Atlantic County to Cape May County over the span.
