LINWOOD - City workers will have to take five furlough days this year, City Councilman Alex Marino said in a budget presentation Wednesday night.
Marino, who chairs City Council's Revenue and Finance Committee, said the city would reduce police department overtime and has begun talking with the police and public employee unions about negotiating current and future contracts.
But the proposed tax increase dropped from 3.6 cents to 3.2 cents, he said. For a house assessed at the city average of $260,000, the proposed $0.922 tax rate means the municipal portion of the tax bill would rise $83.20 to $2,397.20.
Council also amended the proposed budget Wednesday, using an extra $25,000 from the capital budget and cutting money budgeted for salaries by $7,130. The overall budget decreased by $7,348.
Council is expected to grant final approval to the $12.8 million budget next month.
