The Linwood Fire Department has received a $10,023 Assistance to Firefighters Grant, which will be used to purchase AEDs and first responder jump bags for the department. This is the department's second AFG award.

Linwood Firefight Marc Ginsberg, who wrote the grant proposal, said even though Shore Medical Center responds to all of LFD's calls, you never know what kind of emergency you may be faced with and preparedness is key. Therefore, he thought it crucial for the Linwood department to have this equipment on its trucks at all times.

As an example, he mentioned that a Longport firefighter suffered a heart attack after coming out of a structure fire. Use of an AED, or automated external defibrillator, in that situation can save a life. Jump bags are containers filled with all the items needed to respond to an incident.

"We want to make sure all of our fightfighters are protected and have what they need at all times," Ginsberg said.
