NORTHFIELD — City Council approved its 2013 municipal budget at its meeting Tuesday night. The vote was 6-0, with Council President Lisa Brown absent.

For the average 2012 residential assessment of $241,564, the rate increase of about 1 cent per $100 of assessed value will mean an annual municipal tax bill of about $1,936, an increase of about $23 from last year, or a little more than 1 percent.

The total general budget is about $13 million. The tax levy increases by about $8,200, or about a 10th of a percent, to less than $7.8 million.

The municipal tax rate rises to about 80.2 cents per $100 of assessed value, compared with about 79.2 cents per $100 in 2012. The rate does not include school, county and other types of property taxes.
