NORTHFIELD — A shortened spring break and removal of some school holidays were approved Monday to make up for days lost to mold remediation that delayed the start of classes this month at the Community School.

The school board shortened spring break by three days, with school back in session on April 3. In addition, President's Day is no longer a holiday.

Holidays for students that remain include the observance of the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur on Wednesday, Columbus Day on Oct.8 and Election Day on Nov. 6.

Half days include March 22 and June 21 to make up for the Sept. 26 holiday. The final half day was added, and Yom Kippur kept as a holiday by Superintendent Janice Fipp after hearing frustrations from teachers and parents who observe the Jewish holiday.
