Jersey Shore FCU offers all the same products and services as a bank, except we’re not for profit, which means our loan rates are usually lower and savings rates usually higher.
Throughout this year, we’re posing a challenge to the community, where we’re looking to save our neighbors $500,000 in interest and fees. So far we’ve saved them $104,929.
We offer business accounts, and we have savings and checking accounts.
I reach out to our employer groups and the community, letting them know about credit union membership and everything we have to offer.
We already have a pretty big employer group base and I send emails and letters. We also do cold calling and stop by a lot of the businesses and give them information about us.
Our biggest employer group is the William J. Hughes Technical Center, which we started out serving about 50 years ago. About seven years ago, we opened up our offerings to the community as a whole.
People still have the idea that they have to work for a member business, but we’re open to anyone who lives, works, worships, goes to school or volunteers in Atlantic or Cape May counties.
We’ve opened a branch in Rio Grande, and this fall we’re opening another branch in Galloway Township.
Entry: I started as a teller here part time while I attended Stockton. Once I had a degree, this position opened up in the Business Development Department.
I definitely love the credit union industry and that we’re not like every other bank. It has more of a family feel to it.
Getting people to realize they’re eligible to join, to get loans through us, to refinance their loans from elsewhere is the most challenging part. Most people still don’t know what a credit union is.
Career goals: I’d like to advance eventually. I like the business development and marketing side of it.
About me: I really love going to the beach, and walk there occasionally in the winter, too. I grew up a block from the beach and always spent a lot of time there. I also enjoy reading fiction.
