Little wins state DAR essay contest

Katharine Little, a seventh-grader at Northfield Community Middle School, is the New Jersey state winner of the Daughter of American Revolution’s 2012-13 essay contest.

The theme of the contest was “Forgotten Patriots Who Supported the American Struggle for Independence.” Katharine focused her essay on Prudence Wright.

As the state winner, Katharine will present her essay to the New Jersey Daughters of the American Revolution convention April 19 in Princeton, where she will be honored for her work.

Her essay will be forwarded to the Eastern Regional Division and National Competitions.

Gray named to dean’s list

Jenna Gray, of Somers Point, was named to the fall 2012 dean’s list at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

Selection for this award is based on completing and passing all assigned courses with no grade below a “C” and attaining an academic average of at least 3.4 for courses taken in the fall of 2012. Gray is a doctor of pharmacy student.

Art show winners announced

The Ocean City Fine Arts League has announced the March “All Creatures Great and Small” art show winners: First place, Yvonne Smith, of Pitman; second, Alisa Harris, of Seaville; honorable mention, Deb Walker, of Ocean City; Chuck Law, of Linwood; and Besty Naumchik, of Mays Landing.
