First-graders learn about calling 911
On April 19, the Upper Township Rescue Squad and Ocean City 911 Communications and the Tel Com Pioneers went into the Upper Township Primary School to teach about the importance of 911.
First-graders got to practice calling 911 with a simulator, and a 911 Telecommunicator answered and gave instructions. Students were shown the importance of knowing their address and what an emergency is.
When a cell phone calls 911, it connects to a tower, not to a physical address of the caller, so it’s important for children to know their address as well as the address of a caregiver. Children who participated in the exercise received coloring books donated by the state and crayons donated by Applebee’s.
