TED Talk focuses on sound
The TED Talks continue 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, with Julian Treasure, who studies sound and advises business and schools on how best to use it. In a talk entitled “Why Architects Need to Use Their Ears,” Treasure discusses that because of poor acoustics, many students in classrooms miss 50 percent of what their teachers say, and patients in hospitals have trouble sleeping because they continually feel stressed. Treasure sounds a call to action for designers to pay attention to the “invisible architecture” of sound. And that will be followed by a short piece by Treasure, “The 4 Ways Sound Affects Us.”
After the presentation, a discussion follows. The presentation and discussion are free and open to everyone.
