OCFAL announces September contest

The Ocean City Fine Arts League invites all artists to submit up to two entries for the September “Tree” competition, sale and exhibition. Maximum size is 50 united inches (length + width). Entry fee is $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers. Entries are accepted in all mediums and should reflect the Tree theme. Entries can be dropped off through Sept. 4.

There will be a meet-the-artist reception and awards presentation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public and the show runs through the end of September.

Blood platelet drive at St. John

A Red Cross platelet drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 8 at St. John Lutheran Church. The donor bus will be parked outside the church on 10th Street at Central Avenue in Ocean City. Appointments are needed.

The process of platelet donation takes about two hours. Blood is drawn from the donor’s arm and goes into a blood cell separator. Platelets and some plasma are reserved and the rest is returned to the donor. Platelets only last five days after donation and are needed every day. Guadagno to speak at chamber meeting

The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly membership meeting at 12 p.m. Sept. 5 at Ocean City Yacht Club,1 Bay Road. The guest speaker will be New Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno. The lunch is $25 and is open to the community.
