Eight soldiers from the Army's 4th Infantry Division, including former Lower Township resident Spc. Michael Scusa, were killed last year in Kamdesh, Afghanistan, when organized insurgents attacked their outpost with small arms, rocket-propelled grenades and indirect fires.

Michael Scusa, of the Villas section of Lower Township, was one of eight soldiers killed Oct. 3, 2009, in Kamdesh, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked a contingency outpost with small arms, rocket-propelled grenades and indirect fire. They were assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.
