An Ocean City man is accused of stabbing an alleged drug dealer four times in an attempt to steal more than a pound of marijuana.

“We believe it was a drug deal gone bad,” said Capt. Steven Ang, of the city’s Police Department.

Police responded to the 1100 block of Bay Avenue at 10:39 p.m. Wednesday for a fight at the scene, Ang said. When they arrived they found a knife, blood and half a pound of marijuana at the site, he said.

Police arrested Andrew Clark, 26, of Ocean City, at a nearby residence. They believe he set up a drug transaction at the location and stabbed one of the two drug dealers, Ang said.

Tony Mammoccio and Anthony Basile, both 20, of Somers Point, were driving away from the scene in a car when police arrived, Ang said. Officers stopped the vehicle, which contained another half pound of marijuana, on the 1000 block of Bay Avenue and the two fled police, he said.

Basile was quickly apprehended and he told police of a residence in Linwood where Mammoccio was found an hour later, Ang said.

“He wanted to help his friend,” Ang said. “He knew he was seriously hurt.”

Mammoccio had multiple stab wounds to his chest, Ang said. The suspect was treated at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point and released, he said.

“The wounds were an inch or two from his heart,” Ang said. “This could have been a lot more serious than it was.”

Police did not recover any large sums of money from the suspects, and Ang said police believe Clark intended to rob the suspects instead of buying the drugs.

“We believe it’s possible he set them up for a rip-off,” Ang said.

Clark was charged with robbery with a knife, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.

Mammoccio and Anthony Basile were arrested with possession of marijuana over 50 grams, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and conspiracy.

All three suspects were transported to Cape May County Jail. Clark is held on $100,000 bail. Mammoccio and Basile posted $10,000 bail, according to Ang.
