Cocozza receives degree at Rider University
Rider University celebrated its 148th commencement with more than 1,300 undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees awarded, including Andrea Cocozza, of Ocean City, who received a bachelor of arts degree in theater.
DeRuiter is on dean’s list at Geneva College
Geneva College announced that Brandon DeRuiter, a junior biology major from Ocean View, is on the dean’s list for the 2012-13 spring semester. Dean’s list status is awarded to students who earn a 3.6 grade-point average or better.
McKee on dean’s list, graduates from Penn State
Penn State University announced that Kelly McKee, of Ocean City, graduated from the College of Education with a bachelor of science degree in elementary and kindergarten education and a minor in special education at the May Commencement held in The Bryce Jordan Center on the Penn State campus.
The College of Education also presented McKee with a certificate for dean’s list recognition for the spring 2013 semester. She has been accepted into the graduate program at Penn State for special education where she will pursue a master’s degree in education with emphasis in early childhood education and early intervention.
Olandt on dean’s list at Bucknell
Bucknell University has released the dean’s list for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2012-13 academic year. A student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive dean’s list recognition. Included on the list is Rebekka L. Olandt, of Ocean View.
Residents on dean’s list at St. Joseph’s
The following residents earned dean’s list honors for the spring 2013 semester at Saint Joseph’s University: Mia L. Tomkins, of Marmora, a food marketing major; Taylor E. Broadley, of Ocean City, a business intelligence major; and Francis J. Sortino, of Townsends Inlet, a finance major.
Students must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or above, a B or greater in all their classes, and complete at least 15 credits to earn dean’s list status for a semester.
Local students graduate from Bloomsburg
Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania has recently released its list of spring 2013 graduates. Among the candidates for bachelor’s and master’s degrees were Rebecca A. Canderan, of Seaville, who received a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education; Nicole L. Dougherty, of Marmora, who received a bachelor of science degree in special education; and Erin A. Hill, of Sea Isle City, who received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology.
Residents named to dean’s list at Virginia Tech
The following students enrolled at Virginia Tech were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester: Hanna N. Lichtenstein, of Marmora, a sophomore majoring in wildlife science in the College of Natural Resources and Environment; Michael G. Burton, of Ocean City, a sophomore majoring in business information technology in the Pamplin College of Business; and Lauren M. Price, of Ocean City, a senior majoring in biochemistry in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
To qualify for the dean’s list, students must attempt at least 12 credit hours graded on the A-F option and earn a 3.4 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the semester.
The Ocean City Tabernacle Board of Trustees announced seven college scholarships that were awarded to students employed by the Tabernacle and students pursuing a career in Christian service.
Staff Scholarships were given to two employees, both of whom have worked extensively with local students and children of tourists in Ocean City, through the tabernacle’s summer programs of vacation Bible school and off-season after-school program. Brigid Shehan is at Cairn University majoring in Biblical studies and HPE. Sarah Skeels begins at Richard Stockton College this fall, planning to major in education.
The Dana Kull Scholarship for Vocational Christian Service was awarded to Jillian Huber at Moody Bible Institute majoring in children’s ministry and Bible. Another award went to Ocean City’s Alison Roberts, a Biblical studies major at Messiah College.
Three additional Dana Kull awards were presented to master’s of divinity students at Princeton Seminary: Michael Huffman, Aaron Neff and Jennifer Pedzinski.

Brown wins O.C. Fishing Club scholarship
Zach Brown, of Ocean City, recently was awarded a $500 scholarship by the Ocean City Fishing Club.
Brown plans to study to become a marine biologist when he enrolls in the fall at Atlantic Cape Community College.
