Soifer named Citizen of Decade

The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce announced the recipients of the Chamber’s 2012 Citizen of the Year and Business Beautification Awards. These awards will be presented at the Chamber’s dinner Nov. 7 at The Ocean City Yacht Club.

This year, the Citizen of the Year Award is being renamed Citizen of the Decade and will be presented to Ocean City Publicist Mark Soifer. Soifer has been promoting Ocean City for more than 40 years and is the creator of many Ocean City signature events such as the Miss Crustacean Pageant and Weird Week.

Other awards to be presented include the Business Renovation/ Improvement Award to Stainton’s and Peace, Love and Yogurt; Outstanding Landscaping/ Signage Award to Dunkin’ Donuts and Yogurtland; Business New Construction Award to Sunoco 34th Street and the Route 52 Causeway; Outstanding Business Award to Ocean City Parasail/ Pirate Voyages and Yianni’s on the Boardwalk; Outstanding New Business Award to Heritage Surf Shop on the Boardwalk and Yoasis in Downtown Ocean City; Outstanding Service to the Community Award to Cricket Box; Outstanding Civic, Community, NonProfit Organization Award to Ocean City Fire Department and the Ocean City Halloween Parade; Outstanding Use of Technology to Tackle Direct for its website; and Environmentally Friendly Award to Jilly’s.

Additionally, two special awards will be presented. One to Henry’s, which is celebrating 40 years in business, and one to the Forum, which is celebrating 50 years in business.
