1997: Van Pelt elected to Ocean Township Committee.

2001-2008: Served as mayor of Ocean Township.

Nov. 6,  2007: Elected as state assemblyman in the 9th District.

December 2008: First meets with FBI informant Solomon Dwek.

Feb. 21 2009: Meets Dwek at Caesars Atlantic City and accepts

a white envelope with $10,000

in cash. 

Feb. 28, 2009: Steps down as an Ocean Township committeeman.

March 30, 2009: Meets Dwek at the Ocean Breeze Diner in Ocean Township and accepts a GPS

system.

July 23, 2009: Arrested in FBI roundup with 43 other people. He is accused of accepting a $10,000 bribe. Van Pelt is charged with bribery and extortion.

July 26, 2009: Loses job as the Lumberton Township administrator.

July 31, 2009: Resigns as assemblyman .

Dec. 10, 2009: Indicted on federal bribery and extortion charges.

Jan. 5, 2010: Pleads not guilty.

May: Federal corruption trial begins in federal court in Trenton.

May 19: Convicted of bribery and extortion.
