Print this Article
  • Students leave the R.M. Bacon School in Millville on Wednesday. The city’s school district has one of the highest percentages of impoverished children in the nation, and today, PTA members and a local motorcycle club will serve children at the school a Thanksgiving meal. PTA president Yvonne Mitchell says the event helps ensure all children have a chance to enjoy Thanksgiving.

Dear Platterpie - Hang in there! There is a life beyond WW. I too grew up in SJ in a single parent home with a mom who worked two jobs to feed us hot dogs and noodles most nights. Still we kids stuck close together, supported our mom and each other and now each one of us is happy and successful. We all have jobs, own homes, and raise kids who have plenty. Hit the books, get a job as soon as you are old enough, save your money (when you can) and work hard at everything you do. Keep telling yourself "I can do anythng, and one day you will believe it." PS- My mom went back to school too and now is a nurse living comfortably for the first time in a long while. To the rest of you who are harassing this kid - have a heart!

The rise in percentage of children ages 5-17 living in poverty is on the rise. The current economic problems will increase that number. It is a time for parents to take a hard look at their circumstances and pull together as a family. Many families have relocated to help themselves and other family members. Sacrifices have to be made...the economic future is very bleek and it is time parents look at other alternatives rather than the government.

If the parent(S) would show some regard that everything should be provided for them is a farce. They are un productive , majority a child them selves. NJ IS THE WORST Again people in this state feel that every thing should be given to them. Just look at all the statistics as far back BC (BEFORE CASINOS) The children were in the top ten. Atlantic, Cape May & Cumberland counties are the rectum of the state enough said!!!!!!

Listen hooker I am one of the students from Wildwood High School. My parents split up recently and now my mother has to work everyday for 12 hours just to feed us. You do not know what we go through.

Maybe if the parents got off the couch, stopped eating Cheetoes, and watching Oprah they would be able to feed their children.

What good are the after-school programs, the boys and girls club and the PAL if there is no transportation. If these children come from poor families, what makes you think they have a car? Lots of these children are too young to walk to these places by themselves. PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION!!!!!!!!!!
