EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP —Up to 10,000 people flocked to Veterans Park on Tuesday, Aug. 1 to enjoy an evening designed specifically to do just that very thing: to bring this sprawling community together for a few hours.

The township’s National Night Out celebration, like the others held around the country on the same day, is an effort to spread an anti-crime and anti-drug message through fostering relationships within the community. First responders, community groups, vendors, DJs and government entities were joined by sports groups and youth organizations to offer activities and food to the visitors.

The event was capped off with a fireworks display, which kept the visitors in the park until well past 9 p.m. Another highlight of the evening was the appearance of Miss New Jersey Kaitlyn Schoeffel, an Egg Harbor Township native, who took photos and signed autographs with visitors all evening.
