Dave Matthews Band guitarist and his band TR3 didn’t waste any time winning over the crowd Friday for their midday show at the DMB Caravan.
The group came out rocking to Led Zeppelin’s “Cashmir,” playing the song instrumentally as Reynolds jammed on a double-neck, 18-string Gibson just like the one Jimmy Page plays.
As soon as Reynolds played the first notes, lingering festivalgoers flocked to the Pacific Stage — some even running.
“Kashmir” was a nice start. The rest of the set did not disappoint as the band ripped through some funk, rock and even Latin music. Reynolds changed guitars for nearly every song, bringing out a Flying V, a Fender Strat and even playing some slide.
While the entire three-piece band is solid, Reynolds’ fretwork is about as good as you will find at the festival. Reminiscent of Steve Howe, Steve Vai and Carlos Santana, Reynolds is as crafty and inventive as he is quick and versatile. He was worth the price of admission himself.
Reynolds will join the Dave Matthews Band every night of the festival at 8 p.m., and he’ll do an acoustic set with Matthews at 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
