Brace yourself, South Jersey could see another round of severe weather this evening or overnight.
Whether those storms could be as severe as the one that ripped through the region this morning remains to be seen.
The National Weather Service is calling for a 30 percent chance of severe storms, with the highest chance for the Washington DC area.
The weather service said in a statement that another storm system could affect South Jersey and Delaware. The system likely will develop this afternoon across western Pennsylvania and then move east. The developing storm may once again have high winds, frequent lightning and hail.
As the region is cleaning up from the historic storm that generated hurricane-strength wind gusts and sustained winds stronger than 60 mph for much of the area, area officials are trying to deal with traffic.
Atlantic County, which was especially hard-hit by the storm, is currently in a state of emergency and travel is supposed to be restricted.
Motorists have been asked to stay off the road due to so many downed trees, power lines and debris. Many major intersections have no traffic lights and don’t have officers helping direct traffic.
However, even as the clean-up is underway, motorists from out of town are descending on the coastal areas for the holiday weekend or to escape the heat and are meeting an emergency situation. There are lengthy back-ups on the Atlantic City Expressway, the Garden State Parkway and Route 72 into Long Beach Island.
Remember that if a traffic light is out, motorists are to treat it as if it’s a four-way stop.
