Honoring volunteers

More than 100 people raised $26,000 recently, at a 10th anniversary brunch for Volunteers in Medicine of Cape May County.The Greater Wildwood Elks and the Mustard Seed, in Stone Harbor, also presented VIM with donations.

VIM recognized several volunteers with 10-year pins; and thanked the volunteer doctors in the audience - Dr. Dennis Cardillo; Dr. Joseph Salvatore, Dr. David Perry; Dr. Thomas Dierkes and VIM's Medical Director Dr. Elizabeth Crowley.

VIM's next fundraiser will be VIM Bam Boom, an evening of food and entertainment featuring Jazz Vocalist Gina Roche, Magician and Mentalist Eric Walton; Contortionist Jared Rydelek and host Jim Daly. It will be April 19 at the Golden Inn in Avalon. Tickets are $65. Call 609-465-2846.

'GoGo' raises funds

About 200 people attended "The Alcove a GoGo," dance party March 2 at the House of Blues at Showboat Casino-Hotel, raising $30,000 for The Alcove Center for Grieving Children and Families in Northfield.

Many came in 1960's attire, and Rich Baehrle, of Northfield, won for best-dressed man; Debra Albuquerque, of Northfield, for best-dressed woman; and Jason and Jessica Goldstein, of Linwood, for best dressed couple. Next year the nonprofit plans a 1970's disco event.

The Alcove will hold an open house

5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on April 18. It is also organizing an adult group for those who have lost their mothers. The group will meet 6 p.m. every other Tuesday for eight weeks, beginning March 20. Call 609-484-1133 to pre-register.

Realtor's donation

The New Jersey Association of Realtors Housing Opportunity Fund Inc., and the Cape May County Association of Realtors, donated $2,000 to Habitat For Humanity of Cape May County recently.

The housing opportunity fund is designed to help more people achieve the American dream of owning a home, the realtors' groups said.
