Absecon man honored
Chuck Dhyne, a volunteer at South Jersey Field of Dreams and Absecon resident, was presented with the 2012 Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Philadelphia Region Volunteer Honors Award July 18.
The award included a $1,000 donation in his name to his charity of choice, South Jersey Field of Dreams and a $1,000 gift from the McDonald's Restaurants of the Greater Philadelphia Region.
The Jan-Ai Scholarship Fund recently gave $1,000 awards to: Christopher Ferrante, of Cape May, a senior at Rowan University and graphic artist and photographer; and to jazz musician Kameron Ghanavati, of Ocean City, who will attend the University of Delaware to study music education, said founder Cynthia Walker, of Ventnor.
It also gave $500 scholarships to a number of graduating high school seniors, including Linwood's Michaela Day, Ventnor's Bryan Duffy, Margate's Amanda DeSouza, Ventnor's Ryan Goukler, Mays Landing's Richard Loper, Somers Point's Nicole Passmore, Egg Harbor Township's Kassidy Reynolds, and Somers Point's Bridgette Walker. Sturdy Savings Bank donated $2,000 to the Atlantic Cape Community College Foundation on July 16, at Atlantic Cape's Cape May County Campus.
The donation is the third payment toward a $10,000 pledge for the college's Create Opportunity Campaign that will support Atlantic Cape scholarships for low- to moderate-income students.
Cape Bank's Cape Cares Crew beat the heat last Sunday, July 15 in support of the Third Annual Sundaes on Sunday event benefiting the Alcove Center for Grieving Children and Families in Northfield.

Hair Cuttery will launch its 13th annual Share A Haircut event this year. It will donate one free haircut to a child in need in the community for every haircut purchased for a child 18 or younger from Aug.1 to Aug. 15, the company said.
"We expect 75,000 haircuts to be donated in communities across the country to children in need," said Dennis Ratner, Founder and CEO of Hair Cuttery. Locally there are Hair Cuttery salons in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties.
