Bikini Car Wash

The Wonder Bar Bikini Car Wash raised $1,800 on Aug. 2 for the Salvation Army Summer Day Camp program for Atlantic City children, said organizer and bartender April Luzzi, 34, of Margate.

Five women washed at least 50 cars in front of the bar on Sunset Avenue in Atlantic City, she said.

Payment was by donation, and the biggest donations came from three people who gave $100 each, she said. Local Fireman Steve Weierbach, also known as DJ Live Wires, donated his time, and WMGM-FM 103.7 broadcast from the event.

Music education funds

The Somers Point Jazz Society recently donated $1,000 to the Somers Point Foundation for Education, to help support music education programs.

Red Cross honors

The Rotary Club of Vineland was honored by the American Red Cross on July 24, for having recently hosted its 50th Blood Drive. Also honored were Ramada of Vineland owners John and Annette Scipione, who have donated use of their facility for the quarterly blood drives for three years.

Aid for art students

The Schultz- Hill Foundation, which supports arts, historical and other charitable groups, received a $1,500 grant from the Ocean City Charitable Foundation in July, a spokesman said.

FoodBank donation

Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City donated $10,000 to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey at the end of this year's Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival held July 26 to 29.

The Community FoodBank also had four staff members from its Community Kitchen and several recent graduates of the Food Service Training Academy present dishes at the Define Cheese Steak and Sweet & Stylish events.

United Way grants down

United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey will distribute $678,605 collected from donors to 53 programs in Atlantic County in 2012-13, the organization announced. That amount is down from the 2011-12 totals of $850,000, distributed to 62 nonprofit programs

It also will pass along another $500,000 in donor-specified gifts to charities, compared to $800,000 in donor-specified gifts last year; and will use $370,000 this year for United Way direct service initiatives, such as Success by 6 and the Volunteer Center, compared to $390,000 last year.

The campaign that funded this year's grants collected about $2 million, down about 20 percent from the year before, a spokeperson said.
