Flying aces take to the sky for Atlantic City Air Show

It's a bird. It's a plane.

Well, actually, it's a lot of planes.

The annual Atlantic City air show, "Thunder Over the Boardwalk," returns to town today, treating visitors to breathtaking views of tricks and maneuvers, and to the roaring sound of flybys.

The air show, sponsored once again by Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, features a cast of flyers including the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, Air National Guard and civilian pilots.

The show kicks off at 10:30 a.m. with the national anthem and a team-flag jump by the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team. The festivities continue until 4 p.m. with a series of different demonstrations. Some of the flybys will take place just minutes apart, so be sure to keep your eyes on the skies.

The air show is free and can be seen from anywhere on the Atlantic City beach and Boardwalk, and most plane enthusiasts take advantage. Attendance for the 2007 air show topped out around 450,000 spectators.

Expect to see a large crowd packed on the beach, and maybe even a few smaller camp sites along the streets off the Boardwalk. If you want a good view from the windows of The Pier at Caesars or one of the other casinos, get there early.

Those with boats can watch the show from the water, but there will be a "no boat zone" restricting boaters except for the U.S. Coast Guard, police and other marine units, from approaching too close to the Atlantic City beach.
