Music Madness

On Friday, June 5, why not be a part of something that's fun, beneficial and tasty? The Southern Branch of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey is holding its third annual Blue Jean Ball, and everyone's invited.

The country-themed dance hall event not only gives you a reason to enjoy great food and live entertainment, but your support and attendance benefits the people of southern New Jersey who rely on the FoodBank for daily nutrition.

This year, the food is being whipped up by the Academy of Culinary Arts and includes great dishes and a hearty dessert spread. The Ann Oswald Band performs live, and you can also expect games and contests sponsored by Cat Country 107.3-FM radio.

Tickets for this event are $100 per person and include valet parking, cocktail hour, dinner and entertainment.

The Ball begins at 6 p.m. at 6735 Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township. Call 609-383-8843 or go to www.njfoodbank.org.

Also on tap this Friday is the return of The Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank to Atlantic City. Although the Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank, also known as the Alexy Brothers, have made it big in Minnesota, their roots are in Somers Point. You may also remember the band as Spilled Milk, a group that wowed southern New Jersey crowds with its album, "Jive Ass Turkey," or from when it opened for Smashmouth at the former Atlantic City Surf stadium.

Since 2005, the Alexy brothers have ventured into the blues music genre as the Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank. As such, they will play live at Dante Hall Theater of the Arts at 8 p.m. Admission is $10. Dante Hall is located at 10 N. Mississippi Ave. in Atlantic City. Call 609-344-8877 or go to www.dantehall.org. For more on the Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank go to www.hobonephews.com or www.myspace.com/hobonephewsofunclefrank.

Speaking of bringing things back, it's time for the Annual Greek Festival in Egg Harbor Township at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bargaintown.

This year, the event is Saturday and Sunday, June 6 and 7, and is showing its musical side with Moussakapalooza, a music festival. More than 15 bands are scheduled to play throughout the weekend, beginning at 3 p.m. both days. Bands slated to play include local favorites such as Juggernaut Drunk, JAS Nature, Hampton Wick, For Alderaan, Corner Store Espionage and Repeate Offenders, among others.

The bands will play until 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. Stick around for the fireworks display shortly after the last band on Sunday.

The show is appropriate for all ages. Admission to the festival is $1, and it only costs an additional $2 to enter the Trinity Center gym to watch all of Moussakapalooza. A $1 food voucher is included with admission. For more information, go to www.thegreekfestival.info. The church is located at 6511 Mill Road in Egg Harbor Township.

It's a Sky Nellor weekend at mixx and mur.mur inside the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City. It's Nellor's birthday, so the Borgata is going all out.

The celebration begins Saturday night at mixx with The Captains of Industry Tour featuring DJs Stone Rokk and Graham Funk. Nellor will make an appearance at mixx when the birthday party starts at 10 p.m. The party continues at mur.mur with Skam Artist DJs Mr. Mauricio and Ross One.
