If fire twirlers, live music, hula dancers and Hawaiian food is your idea of a good time, then you should be happy to read that The Luau will return to the deck at The Pool at Harrah's Resort every Monday from July 6 to Sept. 8.
Since The Pool opened two years ago, alternative programming has included "Dive-In Movies" and a weekly clam bake, but The Luau is the only of the three events returning this summer. The reason? It's very successful.
"The Luau was a huge hit for us the past couple of years, and we certainly got a lot of people to say that it was something they wanted to see again," says Director of Food Services and Executive Chef Edward Batten. "The concept is not revolutionary, but no one else around here does it. And we can certainly do it right with the ambiance of The Pool."
Doors will open for the event at 7 p.m., with the show starting an hour later. The $49.99 price includes the show, a buffet-style dinner, leis, and cash bar for alcoholic beverages. Non-alcoholic beverages are included. The show is available to all ages. The luau moves inside to The Pool if there is inclement weather.
The menu will be similar to past years', including a a whole pig roast displayed with tropical fruit, fried wontons with dipping sauce, tropical salad bar, grilled beef sates, Hawaiian BBQ pulled pork, pineapple macadamia cheesecake and more.
"The menu has a lot of crowd pleasers on it, so we really wanted to keep it relatively the same," Batten says. "People love it because the food is great and there really is a huge amount of action. It not only appeals to our players, but to a lot of locals, too. We have completely transitioned Harrah's over the last three years from a casino to a resort environment, and this is another part of that. You dress down, wear your flip-flops, enjoy the tropical atmosphere and have fun."
Advance tickets can be purchased at Harrah's box office or Ticketmaster at 800-736-1420 or www.ticketmaster.com. On the day of the event, a box office will be set up near The Buffet from 2 to 7:30 p.m.

Celebrity sightings
Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa's mur.mur was the place to be last weekend as Paris Hilton appeared with some BFFs that included desiger Richie Rich. Inside the club, the reality TV star got up on stage to greet fans and shouted, "mur.mur is the best club in Atlantic City. Borgata is Vegas on the East Coast. So hot I love it!" Hilton, who is heading to Dubai to film the next season of BFF, dined at Izakaya, where DJ Jesse Marco offered a special playlist of some of her favorite tunes, including Bob Sinlair's "Love Revolution."
Also in the house was Danny Veltri, the "Hell's Kitchen" winner who won a sous chef job at Stephen Kalt's Fornelletto Cucina Italiana, which will open soon.
Over at Resorts Atlantic City, movie and TV star Dan Aykroyd hosted a VIP event to promote his Crystal Skull vodka. While there, he stopped in to see rock star photographer Mark Weiss, who is appearing and showing his art at the Boogie Nights Rock & Pop Art Gallery. Weiss showed a photo he took of The Blues Brothers in July 1980, and Aykroyd immediately recognized it and knew that it was taken at the Palladium in New York City.
"The stage set was an old gas station," Weiss remembered. "They came out holding the tire and then, with perfect timing, they took a big bite and they went into the song 'Rubber Biscuit.'"
