Revolutionary musical ideas in Vineland
What Is It: Composer and music writer Paul M. Somers, who is affiliated with the Bay Atlantic Symphony, has done a long-running series of talks around South Jersey on many aspects of classical music. His subject tonight in Vineland has a definitely American accent - it's about influences in music after the Revolutionary War.
What To Expect: The formal name of Somers' program is "Music Out of Freedom and Slavery: The American Experience After the Revolution." Its topics include the music of the Moravians, minstrels and New Englanders, plus much more on the effect this new nation had on music - and vice-versa.
Event Info: Free. The lecture runs 6 to7:30 p.m. in the Community Event Room in the Vineland Public Library, 1058 E. Landis Ave. For more details, call 856-794-4244 or see bayatlanticsymphony.org
