Stand Up for Peace in Margate
What Is It: Have you heard the one about the Jewish and Palestinian-American comedians? Stand Up for Peace brings Jews and Arabs together to laugh, and encourages a dialogue in support of a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The show includes comedians Dean Obeidallah and Scott Blakeman, two performers with differing nationalities but similar views and talents. Obeidallah, a Palestinian-American, appeared on Comedy Central's "Axis of Evil" comedy special and co-created the network's "The Watch List" series. Blakeman, a Jewish-American, has made more than 30 national TV appearances, including "Late Show with David Letterman."
What To Expect: Blakeman and Obeidallah begin the show together, perform their own acts separately, then reunite at the end for a question-and-answer session. Expect to laugh, but also to gain insight on a difficult topic.
Event Info: The show starts 7 p.m. at the Milton and Betty Katz Jewish Community Center, located at 501 N. Jerome Ave. in Margate. Patron tickets are $20, donor tickets $30 and house tickets $45. For more information, call 609-822-1167.
Shorecast
As in the movie "Groundhog Day," our outlook today seems much the same as yesterday and the day before and the day before. Clouds and chance of showers persist - with some chance the sun could make a sustained guest appearance. The surf forecast is part of the same dreary script: We're looking at the same sloppy two-footers we've seen all month. They're driven by limp winds from the south and east. On the bright side, water temps have been decent for this time of year, holding somewhat steady in the low- and mid-60s. All in all, we'd say this "iffy" day at the beach is better than a "definite" day at work.
