Broadway By Request at Dante Hall

What Is It: Belters, crooners and heart-wrenchers - the songbooks of Broadway have 'em all. The Shaken Not Stirred Players know that, so they built a whole repertoire around those familiar songs, including a few hidden treasures. But where other performers might get on stage and belt out their favorites, the Players will spend tonight and Saturday night playing yours. In an intriguing set-up, they encourage each night's audience to pick what they'd like to hear from a long list.

What To Expect: If you go, bring a mental note of what songs you'd like to hear. Maybe some recent Broadway blockbusters - from "Wicked," "Spamalot" or "Beauty and the Beast." But how about some Rodgers and Hammerstein, or even some by Jerome Kern, or Lerner and Loewe? They're all on the list. The audience picks its choices song by song, from more than 60 shows. That way, everyone goes home having heard their favorite show-stopper.

Event Information: The show begins at 8 p.m. tonight and Saturday night at Dante Hall Theater of the Arts, 14 N. Mississippi Ave. in Atlantic City. Tickets cost $15. For more information, call 609-344-8877.

The Subdudes at Appel Farm

Who Are They: From time to time they may wear crisp white shirts and dinner jackets - but the Subdudes are down-to-the-bone New Orleans soul. The five-piece group features John Magnie's accordion and Steve Amedee's mandolin over guitars, which they wrangle together into tunes full of Cajun flavor.

What To Expect: After calling it quits during the mid-'90s, the group returned in 2003 and has since made the most of the festival circuit, delivering must-see performances live, such as at the Voodoo festival, Telluride and at last month's New Orleans JazzFest. Hope for their mindblowing "One Time," and the epic jam, "Need Somebody." Early arrivals can bring their own food for a pre-show picnic outdoors before the show.

Event Information: The show starts at 8 p.m. at Appel Farm, 457 Shirley Road, Elmer. Tickets cost $29.50. Call 800-394-1211 for more information.

Jazz Coffeehouse at Church of the Epiphany

What Is It: When summer swings around, every space should be turned into a venue for a great night out. So say the volunteers at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Ventnor, who came up with the idea for a weekly jazz coffeehouse night at the start of the warmer months. Spearheaded by Carol Fredericks, one of the volunteers, the night features live jazz, dinner and dessert for all comers.

What To Expect: On the music front, tonight's line-up includes the duo of Mary Lou Newman and George Jenna. Newman takes the tenor sax, while Jenna fulfills clarinet and piano duties. Hungry clientele can partake of dinner - past nights have offered everything from pasta to lobster rolls - but you can also just come by for dessert for $5. For just $1, get a bottomless cup of coffee and some very good music.

Event Information: The show runs 6 to 10 p.m. at Church of the Epiphany, 6605 Atlantic Ave., Ventnor. Tickets include dinner, dessert and live jazz for $10, or $5 for jazz and dessert. Call 609-822-0285 for more information.

The Psychedelic Furs at Showboat

Who Are They: They have the sound any '80s kid grew up with- the plink-plink synths, the disco drums and the gravelly-voiced pop lyrics. But like so many 1980s rock bands, The Psychedelic Furs went away. Rather than following the bands of the 1970s, many of whom stuck it out, subtly eroding their sound for an extra decade, Furs frontman Richard Butler felt it was better to go and do something new. But after concentrating on his other effort, Love Spit Love, Butler reunited the Furs in the early 2000s.

What To Expect: Butler expects to use much of the Love Spit Love back-catalogue for the Furs' show. But most will come to hear the band's era-defining synth punk pop, including songs such as "Love My Way," "Pretty In Pink" and "The Ghost In You."

Event Information: The show starts at 9 p.m. at House of Blues at Showboat Casino-Hotel, 801 Boardwalk, Atlantic City. Tickets cost $25 to $30. For tickets and information, call 800-736-1420.

Ring of Combat at Tropicana

What Is It: The mixed-martial arts competition returns to the Tropicana following its successful past bouts, promising the crowd a nonstop variety of kicks and slams to keep everyone on their toes. The night includes two title fights - a Ring of Combat Middleweight title and a United States Championship light heavyweight title.

What To Expect: In the main fights, expect to see light heavyweight Ricardo Romero take on the Armenian fighter Karn Grigoryan. In the middleweights, Rafael "Sapo" Natal faces Victor O'Donnell. And the night warms up with no less than 14 other bouts.

Event Information: The event begins at 9 p.m. at Tropicana Casino and Resort Showroom, 2831 Boardwalk, Atlantic City. Tickets cost $50 to $150. For more information, call 800-345-8767.

Shorecast

Looks like today holds the best promise for waves in the near future - but nothing to make you drop what you're doing otherwise. Southwest windswell could clean up late in the day and offer up some rideable stuff that might reach higher than your bellybutton. About what we can expect for this time of year. Clouds continue their month-long winning streak, so it probably won't be the best beach day. Ocean temperature hit 65 degrees yesterday around noon - not bad for this time of year.
