Atlantic City Marathon
What Is It: When the Atlantic City Marathon was put on hold in October, with no new leadership city officials worried they would never find a new organizer to take over from longtime planner Barbara Altman. But by early October, the race not only had a new organizer - Katz Jewish Community Center - but a new set date: today. After the delay, planners will be keen to see the attendance this year, so for any local runners who would hate to see the race decline this lap's one to definitely show up to support.
What To Expect: The overall event includes a number of different races. The marathon, half-marathon, 10K and 5K runs will start promptly at 8:30 a.m. For gentler participation, try the Maria Kugel Berenato Walk, which begins after the start of the race. The Freda Spano Kids Free Fun Run will start at 10 a.m. Competitors can use their Atlantic City Marathon run as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon in April 2010
Event Info: The race-runners gather by 7:45 a.m. at Boardwalk Hall, at Georgia Avenue and the Boardwalk in Atlantic City. Registrants must enter for the 51st Atlantic City Marathon before the 7:45 a.m. start. Fees range from $25 to $100, depending on the race and date of registration.
