Brian Setzer Orchestra at Trump Taj Mahal

Who Are They: Brian Setzer had been part of a swing and big-band revival that, in his eyes, has never stopped. Setzer, now 50, first found success as the leader of The Stray Cats. When that came to an end, he launched this 17-piece band, which has since put out many albums. This year sees the seventh annual Christmas Extravaganza, designed to put some swing in the jingle-bell season.

What To Expect: Since the release of his 2002 "Boogie Woogie Christmas," Setzer has made fun and frothy holiday renditions his specialty. Look for a bouncy "Jingle Bells" that subs "open sleigh" lyrics with "Chevrolet." And there's the classic "Nutcracker Suite," based on Tchaikovsky's ballet but made light and upbeat with oboes and horns.

Event Info: The show starts 8 p.m. at Trump Taj Mahal, Mark G. Etess Arena, 1000 Boardwalk, Atlantic City. Tickets cost $69.50 to $79.50. Call 609-449-1000.

Itzhak Perlman at Resorts Atlantic City

Who Is He: Last seen on our screens with his virtuoso violin playing during this year's presidential inauguration, Itzhak Perlman has always balanced himself as a classical musician with populist reach. The Israeli-American plans to roll out some of the heightened repertoire he likes to popularize: pieces by Beethoven and Stravinsky, plus some surprises sprinkled in-between.

What To Expect: During tonight's show, Perlman will do what he always does: A little bit of improvising. As a player, he was trained at Juilliard but appeared frequently on television, especially with an early (and lively) performance on "The Ed Sullivan Show." To this day, when he tackles pieces like a Beethoven violin concerto, he says he expects to play it differently as he feels fit. Rather than copying his past successes, he says he hopes to re-create the piece each time.

Event Info: The concert starts 8 p.m. at Resorts Atlantic City, Superstar Theater, 1133 Boardwalk, Atlantic City. Tickets cost $65 to $125. Call 800-736-1420.

PAL Family Fun in EHT

What Is It: At least once a year, the local police force in Egg Harbor Township opens its doors to everyone from the community, keen to draw people in and talk about what they do. This year at their 20th annual event "Fair for All," expect the afternoon of family activities to fly high with a demonstration by motorcycle-free-stunt expert Michael Angerman Jr. Later on, music comes courtesy of local jam-band No Pressure.

What To Expect: Aside from the high-octane display by Angerman, there's plenty to keep kids of every age amused. For little children, look for bouncy rides and the Barnyard Friends traveling petting farm, where visitors see tame animals and poultry up close. For older children and adults, there will be horseback rides, lawnmower races, pie-eating contests and line dancing.

Event Info: The event runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at 2590 Ridge Avenue, Egg Harbor Township. Admission is free. Call 609-645-8413 or visit www.ehtpal.com.

'Christmas In Black and White' in Cape May

What Is It: As Christmas approaches, Gayle Stahlhuth has just one wish - a chance to hear seasonal stories off the beaten path. This year, the artistic director of East Lynne Theater Company took matters into her own hands. With Stephanie Garrett, she devised a series of performed stories that shed light on Christmas and seasonal traditions.

What To Expect: Among the well-researched collection, you'll hear Garrett talk about Owen Coachman, a freed son of a slave who lived in a whaler's cottage in Cape May. And, Stahlhuth explores a number of tales from Boston: The experience of a young Irish girl who arrives at the docks and can't find her brother, and, across town, the habit of leaving polling booths up for weeks at a time, providing an unintentional shelter for the city's homeless population in the winter cold.

Event Info: The show runs 8:30 p.m. today and Dec. 6, 11 and 12 at First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes St., Cape May. Tickets cost $23, $13 for students with kids 12 and younger free . Call 609-884-5898.
