Atlantic City Aquarium Birthday Bash
What Is It: How does a 200-pound sea turtle celebrate his birthday? Any way he wants. And Groman the loggerhead sea turtle plans on celebrating his birthday with lots and lots of guests. The Atlantic City aquarium is celebrating its 10th anniversary and Groman's 10th birthday with a sea-themed bash today at Historic Gardners Basin in Atlantic City.
What To Expect: The anniversary/birthday schedule of events includes a live diver feeding show, shark and ray interactive feedings, an exotic animal show and a special birthday cake and "Happy Birthday" sing-along for Groman. The first 10 visitors to the aquarium will receive a commemorative 10th anniversary gift.
Event Info: The party starts at 10 a.m. and lasts until 5 p.m. at the Atlantic City Aquarium in Historic Gardners Basin, 800 N. New Hampshire Ave., Atlantic City. Admission is free. Call 609-348-2880 for more information.
'Rock of Ages' in Ocean City
What Is It: What's a little surf and sand without some rock and roll? If modern rock is your thing, you'll want to head to Ocean City this evening for "Rock of Ages," a modern rock showcase hosted by southern New Jersey rock band Bound by Nothing and featuring a four-band lineup at the Music Pier.
What To Expect: Tonight's lineup includes the bands Jealousy Curve, SPiN and Comic Book Heroes. The music is all modern rock, but it will be a family-friendly showcase.
Show Info: The show starts at 5 p.m. at the Music Pier, Moorlyn Terrace and the Boardwalk in Ocean City. Tickets are free, but are required for entry. Free tickets are available at City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave., Ocean City. Call 856-207-2731 for more information.
'Say Goodnight Gracie' in Cape May
What Is It: Younger audiences may only remember George Burns as a bespectacled old man forever puffing on a lit cigar. But older fans knew Burns as the sidekick to his beloved Gracie, as in female comedian and wife Grace Allen. In honor of this funny couple, the Cape May Stage presents "Say Goodnight Gracie: The Life, Laughter and Love of George Burns and Gracie Allen," opening tonight at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse in Cape May.
What To Expect: Adapted from the reminiscences of Burns, the show traces the comedian's life from his childhood on Manhattan's Lower East Side to his early career in vaudeville, to his relationship with Allen. This play features Broadway veteran Joel Rooks as Burns.
Show Info: The show runs Tuesdays through Sundays through July 18 at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse, Bank and Lafayette streets, Cape May. Opening night ticket prices are $17.50 for adults, $12.50 for seniors and $6.25 for children. Regular ticket prices are $35 for adults, $25 for seniors and $12.50 for children. For tickets or information, call 609-884-1341.
Shorecast
Our long lost friend the sun stopped by for a surprise visit yesterday ... and might actually stick around today. Forecasters say we have a 50-50 chance to avoid rain today. That's about as good as it gets in what's been a miserably rainy month. Water temperatures topped 69 degrees for a while yesterday and should hold in the same range today. The surf forecast isn't nearly so promising. There doesn't appear to be anything on the near horizon that's going to break a pattern of little summer dribblers.
