Revamped 'Alice'

The overhauled version of Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonder-land" falls down the rabbit hole on Sunday when the Syfy Channel airs the first of two parts. This modern version not only features nightmarish objects such as a casino made of cards, a city poised many stories high and a brunette, Roman-nosed Alice, but creatures few of us recognize.

Matt Frewer, above, steals the show as the White Knight and Kathy Bates does a yeoman's job as the red-headed Queen of Hearts.

Writer-director Nick Willing adapted the work. He also directed "Tin Man," TV's modern version of "The Wizard of Oz" two years ago. Neither production managed to conjure the magic of the original, twisted as they are into modern times.

Highly influential

By a wide margin, Americans consider Rush Limbaugh, below, the nation's most influential conservative voice.

Those are the results of a poll conducted by "60 Minutes" and Vanity Fair magazine. The radio host was picked by 26 percent of those who responded, followed by Fox News Channel's Glenn Beck at 11 percent. Actual politicians - former Vice President Dick Cheney and former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin - were the choice of 10 percent each.

On TV tonight

ABC Family is barely letting our Thanksgiving turkey settle before leaping right into its annual "25 Days of Christmas" programming. The event presents 200 hours of holiday-themed shows, movies and specials, beginning with "The Year Without Santa Claus." In the tale, Mrs. Claus reveals how she had to don the red costume and take over for her husband one season. 7 p.m., ABC Family
