Candi Lynn

Great things often come in small packages. Take for instance, Candi Lynn, a 21-year-old southern New Jersey native who already has a record label and music career under her belt, and a charity organization on the way.

Lynn is known for her hip-pop style, but when it comes to the heart and soul of her sound, there's little outside influence involved.

"I was influenced by hip-hop, house music, freestyle, a little bit of rock, and pop music, too," Lynn reveals. "But when I go into the studio to create a song, I do it. I get ideas from inside myself."

Lynn has been compared to Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Pink and Fergie. Although she appreciates being categorized with such hit-makers, Lynn prefers to be judged on her own merits.

"People used to compare me to Britney Spears," Lynn says. "I was like, ‘No, I'm really nothing like that.' I think it was just because I had blonde hair. Now I've dyed my hair red, and I'm all me."

Lynn's fans are loyal and loudly appreciate and promote her music.

"I get a lot of really good responses from my music, and I perform a lot in the Tri-State area," she says. "I go into Philly and New York, but Jersey is my home; the vibe is fun and the people are so accepting."

Catch Lynn's latest performance as she hosts a high-profile music party fit for a holiday weekend on Friday, Nov. 27, at The Pool inside Harrah's Resort in Atlantic City. Other performers and hosts include Emcee Ringo, Joey Enuff, DJ Sammy Slice, DJ N9ne and DJ Hexx. Doors open at 10 p.m. and admission is $10.

"We are offering free admission before midnight if you e-mail our fan site," Lynn adds. "Just send an e-mail to info@candilynn.com with a subject line that reads ‘Candi Lynn guest list,' and we'll send you something to validate one free entry."

It doesn't get much better than that. Call The Pool at 609-441-5165.

What To Expect: "I interact with the crowd a lot, and because I'm not choreographed, I can participate with everyone," Lynn says. "I have my microphone and I can get off the stage and be with the crowd. I am a track artist so I don't have a guitar or anything glued to me. I almost never stay on stage, but I might have to at this upcoming show, just because I don't know if I can go swimming."

Album Info: Her latest album, "Ill Miss Behavin," is available on her own record label, Ill Miss Musik, which she co-created with her mother. "I'm selling as an independent artist, but you can purchase my CDs at FYE, through my Web site or on iTunes," she explains.

History: "I've always been inspired by music, and I've been writing lyrics and poetry since I was eight-years-old," Lynn says. "When I was 14-years-old, my mom made me some beats and threw me up on an open mic stage in Philly, and I've been developing as an artist from there. I've never had a problem going on stage and rocking out."

What's In Store: For her Pool performance, Lynn has a plan to evoke the spirit of the upcoming holiday season. "100 percent of every CD sold at this event will go to families affected by domestic violence," she says. "My mother and I just started a charity, ‘Breaking Boundaries,' to help people who are victims of domestic violence. We are just getting into the gut of it now, but we really wanted to do that for this Pool event."
