Cherish the Ladies at Appel Farm

Who Are They: A group of six that named its band after the title of a traditional Irish jig, Cherish the Ladies has become a supergroup of Celtic traditional musicians. Led by Joanie Madden, who has won Grammys for her whistle and flute-playing, the group don't just redefine Celtic classics but also write their own.

What To Expect: It's a crowded stage - with Mary Coogan playing mandolin and guitar, Roisin Dillon on violin and Mirella Murray on accordion, in addition to other talented members - but the songs they sing bring them close. Expect selections from their hit album, "On Christmas Night," as well as selections from their newest recording, "The Woman of the House," which they recorded in Scotland.

Event Info: The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $28.50. A pre-show "A Conversation with Cherish the Ladies" at 6:45 p.m. costs $10 with a concert ticket at Appel Farm Arts and Music Center, 457 Shirley Road, Elmer. Dinner and concert packages available. Call 800-394-1211.

311 at Borgata

Who Are They: Now a five-piece from Omaha, Neb., the band was one of the alternative-rock groups to achieve fame in the early '90s after self-funding their own tour. They combine a mix of rock, reggae and hip-hop influences.

What To Expect: After a lull of a few years, the band has just charted its highest Billboard release to date with "Uplifter," their ninth album and one produced by Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith). So far, that's yielded the engaging single, "Hey You." They're supported here by Slightly Stoopid.

Event Info: The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $49.50 at Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa in Atlantic City. Call 609-317-1000.

Oceans in Motion at Appel Farm

What Is It: Mike Weilbacher is better known as "Mike the Science Guy," especially to the young listeners of Kids' Corner, the children's music and discussion show on Philadelphia-based radio station WXPN. Today, he teaches kids about something close to southern New Jersey hearts: The ocean.

What To Expect: Through fast-moving poems, songs and stories, Weilbacher introduces children to the wonders under water. And how about sea creatures? From the small - zooplankton - to the large - sharks! - Weilbacher has everyone singing along.

Event Info: The show starts at 11 a.m. Tickets cost $7 at Appel Farm, 457 Shirley Road, Elmer. Call 800-394-1211.

Dion at Resorts

Who Is He: Dion DiMucci began his recording career in the late 1950s with his doo-wop group Dion & The Belmonts. Their hits included "I Wonder Why" and "A Teenager in Love." DiMucci went solo in 1960, scoring hits with "The Wanderer," "Runaround Sue," "Lovers Who Wander," "Ruby Baby" and "Donna the Prima Donna." After struggling with a drug problem during the mid-'60s, Dion re-emerged in 1968 with the hit single "Abraham, Martin and John."

What To Expect: Dion has sustained a successful career for more than 50 years. Although times and musical tastes changed, he rode along with them, experimenting with different styles including doo-wop, rock 'n' roll, folk and blues. Fans can expect to hear all of his classic hits such as "A Teenager in Love" and "The Wanderer."

Event Info: The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $35 and $40 at Resorts Atlantic City's Superstar Theater. Call 800-336-6378.
