"Circles of Hope," a fusion of glass, fabric and wood by three different artists inspired to raise awareness for HIV/AIDS, will be the center of a free art show 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Appel Farm Arts and Music Center Gallery in Elmer.
The master artwork is currently being displayed in the southern New Jersey region and will ultimately be auctioned to raise funds for the AIDS Coalition of Southern New Jersey, a nonprofit organization that provides social services to individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.
The piece is a table with an exquisitely fashioned glass globe as its centerpiece. The globe was created by master glassworker Paul Stankard and is surrounded by a tapestry created by quilt artist Judity Thompson and set in a handcrafted circular table designed by master cabinetmaker David Ramsay.
As described by Stankard, the work is the result of diverse media born from a shared vision to showcase each artist's expertise and reach. "As Judy, David and I began to create this wonderful fusion of glass, fabric and wood, we decided to give it a much greater purpose by donating it to the AIDS Coalition of Southern New Jersey to help raise awareness of the impact of HIV/AIDS on our area," says Stankard, owner of Stankard Studios in Mantua.
The artwork will be on display along with work by regional artists Dorris Noguiera-Rogers and Lindsey Shevkun at a free wine and cheese reception where the artists are expected to attend and meet visitors.
Although the event is free, reservations are recommended. Appel Farm Arts and Music Center is located at 457 Shirley Road in Elmer. Information can be found at www.appelfarm.org or by calling 856-358-2472.
