Wyle's new drama

"ER" vet Noah Wyle, above, will battle aliens instead of microbes when he takes the lead in a new untitled show that Steven Spielberg and Robert Rodat are planning for TNT.

Wyle will play the leader of a band of tattered heroes who are among the few left after the aliens have obliterated most of the folks on Earth. Rodat, who earned an Academy Award nomination for his screenplay for "Saving Private Ryan," is writing the script based on an idea conjured by he and Spielberg.

Focus on the arts

It was only a matter of time for art to jump on TV's reality bandwagon. A cable series focusing on the contemporary art scene is in the works at Bravo.

The yet-to-be-named show is being produced by Sarah Jessica Parker's company, Pretty Matches, along with the Magical Elves production company ("Top Chef," "Project Runway") and "Runway" producer Eli Holzman.

Thirteen contestants will compete for a gallery exhibition, a cash prize and a sponsored national tour. The artists will create works in the fields of sculpture, painting, photography, industrial design and more.

Open casting calls are beginning July 11.
