Mike Epps at the House of Blues

Who Is He: A comedian and actor, Mike Epps started out on the "Def Comedy Jam" tour and later starred in the movie "Next Friday." He plays the character of Black Doug in the movie "The Hangover" and will next be seen in the role of Jellyroll in the film "The Janky Promoters," due out later this month.

What To Expect: Epps' comedy covers a variety of topics, not all family-friendly. During one of his HBO performances, his set included jokes about celebrities serving jail time, California police, grown men who have a fear of the boogieman and problems with tattoos. His raunchy comic style has made him a hit with the adult crowd.

Event Info: The show starts at 8 tonight at the House of Blues Atlantic City in the Showboat Casino-Hotel. Tickets, priced at $35, $40, $45, $59.50 and $69.50, are available at the House of Blues box office or Ticketmaster at 800-736-1420 or visit www.ticketmaster.com

The Roots at Borgata

Who Are They: A six-member Philadelphia hip-hop group, the Roots have been defined by where they're from and what influences them. The band adds elements of jazz to hip-hop music. The group insists on being different from the scene's over-produced mainstream output. Now, they serve as the house band for the "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" show on NBC. Tonight marks the band's first night in residence at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. Each show will feature special guests, and tonight that means an appearance by Doug E. Fresh.

What To Expect: During a concert in April, the Roots' set list included "The Next Movement" and "You Got Me" from their "Things Fall Apart" album from 1999. It is possible the band will perform at least one song from their upcoming release, "How I Got Over," scheduled for release Oct. 13 through Def Jam Records.

Event Info: The performance begins at 9 tonight in the Music Box at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. Tickets, priced at $49.50, are available at the Borgata box office or through ComcastTIX at 800-298-4200 or www.theborgata.com. Following the performance, the band will host an official Borgata Nightlife afterparty. It begins at 11 p.m. at mixx in Borgata. Music will be by Roots' member ?uestlove and a guest DJ. Complimentary entry to the party with your ticket stub or pay $10 at the door.

Car Cruise in Smithville

What Is It: Fifty to 60 enthusiasts of antique, vintage and Corvette cars come twice a month to Smithville to enjoy each others' company, eat and listen to the Music on the Greene summer series.

What To Expect: Observers can come and look at the cars driven by the participants.

Event Info: The cruise takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Historic Smithville and Village Green, Route 9 and Moss Mill Road, Galloway Township. Admission is free for spectators. For more information, call 609-748-6160.

Angela Burton and Passion in A.C.

Who Are They: Atlantic City native Angela Burton and her band Passion have played jazz, oldies, R&B and Top-40 pop songs during tours to entertain the troops for the Department of Defense and the USO. She has opened for such headliners as War, Mandrill, Blue Magic, New Birth, The Shirelles and the late Teddy Pendergrass.

What To Expect: With the exception of drummer Donnie Vosburg, of Galloway Township, Burton will be performing with singers and musicians who are all from Atlantic City. She will be accompanied by saxophonist and keyboardist Hassan Abdullah, bassist Bruce Mobley and guitarist Earl Grant. Her backup singers are Saverne Martin, Dee Sutton and Marti Brown. Savannah Kelsey, also of Atlantic City, choreographs Burton's shows. Burton's horn section will not be present.

Event Info: Burton and her backing group perform from noon to 2 p.m. as part of the "Fridays in the Plaza" free outdoor concert series at Police and Fireman's Plaza, which is located between the main branch of the Atlantic City Free Public Library and City Hall.
