'Visions from the Northside' at Arts Garage in A.C.

February may be over, but you still have a couple of days to see the Black History Month exhibit at the Atlantic City Art Center. "Visions from the Northside" features the art of Floretta Schiff Mostovoy. The artist grew up in New York and graduated from high school in the Great Depression, but settled with her husband in Atlantic City's historically black Northside neighborhood. The paintings by Mostovoy add up to "a unique and provocative exhibition based on the people, sights and underlying racial tension" of the neighborhood, the Art Center says. "Mostovoy's subjects were usually her neighbors, (and) her paintings remind viewers of the affinity between blacks and Jews through their common heritage of oppression and shared fear of random violence."

If You Go: The show runs through Thursday in the Art Center, now located in the Noyes Arts Garage, 2200 Fairmount Ave., Atlantic City. The Arts Garage is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday. For more details, call 609-626-3805 or see
