Take a Beachcomber tour in Sea Isle City
What Is It: Maybe you don't need a guided tour of your favorite beach, but yo ur kids could probably use somebody to show them what's what. Sea Isle City's Beachcomber Guided Tours are a tradition in that town - they've been teaching beach lessons in a kid-friendly way for almost a quarter of a century now, and they run two days each week all summer, including today.
What To Expect: The tour guides don't just walk around and point out bits of beach nature. They also like to throw a fishing net out into the surf and pull it in, then show the crowds some of what's living right in that shallow water. And these tours - a bargain at just $1 per person - do draw crowds. Thousands of kids have taken them over the years to learn about the local beach environment.
Event Info: Today's tour leaves at 10 a.m. from Sea Isle City's beachfront walkway, the Promenade, at 29th Street. Thursday's tour is also at 10 a.m., but the meeting spot is Townsends Inlet Park, at 94th Street and Landis Avenue. Tours run through Aug. 30 and cost $1 per person, including a free sand bucket and coloring book for kids. For more details, call 609-263-9643 or visit seaislecitynj.us
