ATLANTIC CITY — When the doors opened for the Bell Biv DeVoe and En Vogue concert Thursday afternoon, Roberta Taylor-Merchant dashed down the beach toward the stage.

The Lawnside, Camden County, resident had never seen Bell Biv DeVoe before but had seen the group’s previous incarnation, New Edition, seven times.

She said she would have never come to Atlantic City if not for the group.

“I came here to see BBD do their thing,” said Taylor-Merchant, 44, as she sprinted through the sand with a Bell Biv DeVoe shirt on.

But would she come back if more R&B acts played here?

“Sure, of course.”

BBD, alongside En Vogue, brought their hits to Atlantic City on Thursday evening in the final installment of the city’s 2016 summer beach concert series. Fans from outside the area came for one reason: The A.C. beach concerts finally had an R&B group.
