Birdland Big Band swings into Stockton
What Is It: The Performing Arts Center at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey will probably never remind anyone of an intimate jazz club, but tonight the PAC hosts the house band from Birdland, the legendary New York mecca for the music. Drummer Tommy Igoe leads the band in a show called "Live at Birdland."
What To Expect: Igoe was just 18 when he went on tour with the Glenn Miller Band in 1986, and he has also been a touring drummer for Blood, Sweat & Tears. Now he leads this big band on weekly gigs at Birdland - and on a long tour that lets the band bring that Birdland feel well beyond its walls.
