Atlantic City Boat Show
What Is It: It's still early February, but signs of spring are already in the air. At least there are signs of spring all over the ground this weekend at the Atlantic City Convention Center, which is hosting one of the most popular events of the local winter, the Atlantic City Boat Show.
What To Expect: At this show, you get to check out any boat you might want to buy - and probably plenty of boats you can't afford to buy, but it's still nice to dream. And a day at this event can make you dream big, or small, because the boats come in all shapes, sizes and prices.
Event Info: Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Convention Center, 1 Convention Blvd., Atlantic City. Admission is $15, but kids ages 15 or younger are free with paid adults. For group rates or more details, call 718-707-0716 or see acboatshow.com
'Zappa Plays Zappa' at Harrah's
What Is It: The late Frank Zappa was legendary as an excellent but eccentric rock musician, eccentric enough to name his son Dweezil. But the boy got into the family business, and now Dweezil - who has been putting out his own music for more than 25 years - is busy with a long-running tour called "Zappa Plays Zappa," which stops tonight at Harrah's Atlantic City.
What To Expect: The younger Zappa has been playing his pop's tunes in public since 2005, so he and his band have them down. And "Zappa Plays Zappa" has been a hit wherever it has gone, so if you're into Frank's music, give his boy a chance to bring it alive again for a night.
Event Info: Showtime is 9 p.m. in the Showroom at Harrah's, 777 Harrah's Blvd., Atlantic City. Tickets are $30, $40 and $50. For more details, see harrahsresort.com
Art show by, and of, rock royalty at Hamilton Mall
What Is It: Rock stars are the artists in a show this weekend sponsored by WTKU-FM 98.3. But many of those same rockers are also the art in this exhibit at the Hamilton Mall - photographs of everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Johnny Cash to The Doors will be on display, and on sale.
What To Expect: The KOOL-98.3 Rock Art Show & Sale will feature visual art produced by late greats including Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon, as well as alive and rocking musicians Paul McCartney, Carlos Santana, Bob Dylan and many more. You also can see many of those same musicians in photos, posters and more formats. There is also art by Ron Campbell, who animated the Beatles' Saturday morning cartoon. Everything you see is for sale too.
Event Info: Free. The show runs 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday on the second level of Hamilton Mall, across from JC Penney. For more details, see kool983.com or shophamilton.com
